The approach adopted has to been to educate, inform and entertain both the general locomotive enthusiast as well as those training for footplate duties. The site is designed to be easy to use, both for students reading the text in the manner of a book (“text mode”), as well as for those who wish to use the site as a source of reference material (“reference mode”).

|
The site aims to be correct, coherent and complete. It is not intended to be the one, definitive and all encompassing treatise on locomotives, but to present all the information and background necessary to enable footplate staff to successfully satisfy such traction examinations as they may undertake in order to become fully qualified for footplate duties.
